Anselmo Mendes was born and grew up in Monção. As a child he became acquainted with the culture of the vine and wine production and it wasn’t long before the Alvarinho wine variety became a part of his life. After graduating in Agro-Industrial Engineering in 1987 he then went to study Oenology at the Catholic University. Anselmo Mendes began producing wine with Alvarinho grapes in 1998.

His winery in the Minho Valley is his place for experimentation and research, where his passion for the wine and the region takes shape and flavour. It is a place of reinvention, where he can make each wine become an expression of the land at its most sublime.

By cultivating a passion in each region and getting to know the voice of each land, Anselmo Mendes has been able to bring out the best in each wine he has made. From Vinho Verde to the Alentejo, from Douro and Dão and with leaps to the Azores and Brazil, Anselmo Mendes has undertaken the true path of a winemaker.
